Riverside, CA - The Golden Eagles women's basketball team hit the court tonight, hosting The Master's College and looking to snap a five game losing streak. The Master's College entered the game with a perfect record of 4-0, including two victories over two teams, #5 Westminister and #15 Lewis and Clark State College, in the preseason Top 25 rankings. While the Golden Eagles put themselves in a great position to pull the upset, Master's was able to hang on to the 79-76 win.

The Master's College jumped out to an early nine-point lead, 11-2, but the Golden Eagles closed the gap quickly with a couple of lay-ups and basket from beyond the arc. The nine-point lead was the largest lead of the game for either team. La Sierra enjoyed an eight-point lead early in the second half, 48-40. The rest of the game consisted of seven ties and 24 lead changes.

With just under one minute to play, the Golden Eagles held a slim two-point lead until Zoe Scott received a pass at the top of the key and knocked down the eventual game-winner with 21 seconds remaining on the clock. The Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on a lay-up attempt with just under two seconds to play, for the potential game-winning answer.

The women's basketball team finished the night with their best shooting performance of the season thus far. The Golden Eagles shot 46-percent from the field, including 47-percent from behind the 3-point line, connecting on 10-of 21 attempts. Master's outrebounded La Sierra, 41-35.

Natalia Hawthorne led all players with a season-high 29 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Joirdan Jones added 15 points on the night. And in her first official game since joining the squad at the conclusion of the volleyball season, Shelby Madigan pitched in with 12 points and four rebounds.

La Sierra drops to 1-7 on the season. They will look to bounce back as they travel to San Diego Christian College (SDCC) this upcoming weekend for the SDCC Invitational Tournament. The Golden Eagles will face Arizona Christian on Friday afternoon at 2:00pm, followed by a Saturday evening match-up against the host school, San Diego Christian at 7:30pm.
