Women’s Basketball Completes Weekend Sweep

Riverside, CA - La Sierra University played host to three sister schools during this weekend's tournament.  And after wins over Oakwood University and Pacific Union College, the Golden Eagles were looking to complete the weekend sweep with a victory of Andrews University.  After building a lead, the Golden Eagles coasted to a 65-57 victory.

The Golden Eagles used their defense to create their offense, using a first half run to take a 36-15 lead into the half.  In the second half, the Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 32 points.  Andrews then made a run hitting outside shots and trimming the lead to eight points by the end of the ball game.

After three consecutive games in three straight days, the Golden Eagles were able to get more time for their bench players.  No players played less than 11 minutes in the game.  With a fast-paced game coming up, La Sierra was able to get their starting line-up some much needed rest and their bench some valuable game experience.

Sophomore Brittani Walker led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 14 points and five rebounds.  Natalia Hawthorne had 11 points, seven steals and three assists in just sixteen minutes of play.  Victoria Lowe scored 10 points while connecting of five-of-six shots in fourteen minutes of play.

La Sierra shot a season-high 53-percent from the field, hitting 26-of-49 attempts, including 11-of-19 in the second half.  The Cardinals outscored the Golden Eagles 42-29 in the second half with the help of 9-of-16 shooting from the 3-point line.

The Golden Eagles improve their record to 5-10 on the season.  They will travel to Arizona Christian University on Thursday evening before taking a break for the Christmas holiday.
