Los Angeles, CA - After suffering two convincing losses to No. 5 Concordia University, the women's softball team traveled to Occidental College to face the Tigers for the first time this season.
The Golden Eagles were able to push some runs across the plate today, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Occidental. The Tigers took both games of the doubleheader by final scores of 10-3 and 11-6, respectively.
In Game 1, Monique Villasenor was 3-for-3 in the game with one RBI. Vanessa McGowen was 1-for-2 with a two-run homerun in the top of the 2nd inning.
La Sierra held the lead until the Tigers tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning. But Oxy broke the game open with a six run 5th inning, on their way to the 10-3 win.
Starting pitcher, Aleena Bahling (1-5) picked up the loss in Game 1. Brittany Vacura pitched a complete game for the Tigers, picking up the win.
In Game 2, the Tigers scored all of their runs in the bottom of the 1st, and that would be enough as they would go on to win 11-6.
After giving up 11 runs in the 1st inning the Golden Eagles worked to chip away at the lead, but were unable to fully close the gap.
Diamond Turner, Jennifer Duenas, Pamela Gomez, and Vanessa McGowen each had two hits in the game. Lindsay Sleigh led the team with two RBI's with a triple that scored two runs. Turner, Gomez, and Ashlee Gutierrez each finished with one RBI apiece.
Joselyn Salazar (0-4) picked up the loss in Game 2 while Amber Garland picks up the win for the Tigers.
The Golden Eagles record now stands at 1-12 on the season. The team's next opportunity will come this weekend when they travel back to San Marcos to play in the Cal State San Marcos Tournament this coming Friday and Sunday.
