Fullerton, CA - The Golden Eagles held a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning, until the Royals tied the score in the bottom half of the inning, as they scored their three runs on two hits while capitalizing on two errors.
The game went into extra innings and remained tied until La Sierra scored a run in the ninth inning, only to be matched by Hope in the bottom half. But it was the Golden Eagles who struck for three runs in the top half of the 10th inning to secure the 7-4 win.
The rally started when Vanessa McGowen hit an RBI double to right centerfield, scoring Taylor Saenz-Griego. The double was followed up by a two-run homerun by Monique Villasenor.
McGowen and Saenz-Griego each had two hits in the game and combined for four of the team's nine hits in the game. Five different players tallied an RBI for the team, led by Villasenor with two.
Both pitchers pitched the entire 10 innings, with Aleena Bahling (4-18) picking up the win and Liz Gonzalez (14-8) being charged in the loss.
Bahling turned around and took the ball in Game 2, but just ran out of gas. She was touched up for two runs on four hits in her one inning of work.
That would prove to be enough for the Royals, who completed the shut-out win over La Sierra, 4-0.
The Golden Eagles were held scoreless on five hits, while committing three errors that led to two runs.
La Sierra closes out the 2013 campaign, with a record of 6-33.
