Riverside, CA - In Game 1, a nine-inning affair, Arizona Christian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring a run in each of the first two innings. Both teams took turns in the middle innings by scoring a combined total of 16 runs (ACU – 9, La Sierra – 7).
The Firestorm took an 11-7 lead into the sixth inning and continued their offensive barrage, scoring nine more runs in the final four innings, on their way to a 20-7 victory.
The offensive highlights for the Golden Eagles were Rico Alanis who led the team with two hits in the game, while collecting an RBI. Jordan Bray and James Rael each tallied two RBI's each.
After some defensive struggles this past Friday, the Golden Eagles finished with no errors in the game compared to the Firestorm's three defensive miscues.
The Firestorm scored their 20 runs on 24 hits while the Golden Eagles scored their seven runs on six hits.
Arizona Christian started off where they left off in Game 1, scoring three quick runs in the first inning, beginning with a leadoff home run from outfielder Nathan Enriquez. It was the first of three homeruns in the game for Enriquez and one of nine homeruns in the game for the Firestorm.
The Golden Eagles answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first, but just couldn't keep up.
The Firestorm never looked back, as they scored multiple runs in every one of the seven innings, except the fourth. They would go on to win Game 2 by a final of 31-5.
Ryan Diaz and Rico Alanis combined for six of La Sierra's eight hits in the game. Diaz went 4 for 4 with two RBI's in the game and Alanis was 2 for 4 with one RBI.
The Golden Eagles will look to steal the final game of the series against Arizona Christian tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1pm.
La Sierra will close out their 2013 season this coming Friday, versus Bethesda University. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 11am.
