Riverside, Calif. - After winning their first two Cal Pac matches of the season, the Golden Eagles played host to Soka University in their first conference match, played on their home field.

Both teams entered the match unbeaten in conference play, but it was the Lions who were able to keep their record intact, with two first half goals.

Soka jumped out to the early lead, by taking advantage of an early opportunity.  Bryce Arenson found the back of the net, in the 1st minute, when a crossing pass from Akira Takahata connected for the 1-0 lead.

Arenson added his second goal of the match when he collected the ball at midfield and beat the Golden Eagles defense down the field, and found the upper right corner for the 2-0 lead.

The Lions would carry that lead into the half, before the Golden Eagles would re-group and come out strong in the second half.  La Sierra put forth a sustained second half effort that provided some great scoring opportunities.  But some great saves by Lions goalkeeper Danny Smyth kept the Golden Eagles off the board.

Forward Kenneth Henry finally broke through with a goal in the 87th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Roman Santiago.

The Golden Eagles finished with more total shots (26-12) and more shots on goal (13-10).  Nevertheless, La Sierra falls to 2-1 in conference play, and 2-3 overall.

The men's soccer team will play another conference match this week, when they host Simpson University this coming Thursday morning, at 10am.
