Costa Mesa, Calif. - Opening their season on the road, the Golden Eagles (0-1) traveled to Vanguard University (1-0), where they dropped the season opener by final of 2-0.

Two first half goals proved to be enough, as the Lions scored an early goal (19th minute) off of a rebound from the crossbar that found the right corner of the goal.

They scored their second goal just over three minutes later on a breakaway, putting it past goalkeeper Jaime Valencia.

After the young Golden Eagles squad settled into the game, the two teams played even for the final 68 minutes of the contest.

"Vanguard is a solid and well coached team, we have to give them a lot of credit", said coach Jesse Olivas. "We have to work on being more consistent in our play.  With nine new starters it will take some time, but we aren't that far away"

The Lions outshot the Golden Eagles 18-6 (9-2 in shots on goal). Senior Edgar Padilla led the team with four of the six total shots.

The young Golden Eagles team will look to learn on the run as they now look ahead to their home opener on Wednesday evening, August 27.  La Sierra will host Hope International in their home opener.
