Men's Soccer - Mon, Sep. 5, 2011
Utah - The Golden Eagles (3-1-0) wrapped up their trip to Utah with a win over McPherson College (KS) (1-2-0) to bring their record to 1-1 on the road trip. The win comes after a tough loss to Westminster College in Double OT. "Playing on the road is always a difficult challenge as you are away from the normal routine, but we were able to adapt and get a win.' Coach Olivas.
Jonas Ornelas scored his third goal in as many games but the Golden Eagles could not hold on as the Griffins scored with two minutes left in Double Over time to give La Sierra its first loss of the season. "This was a tough loss on the road, but our boys will learn from it and, as coaches, we can see where the team needs to improve".
McPherson College: After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the Golden Eagles broke through on the scoreboard on the 86th minute. Sophomore Defender Joel Hernandez scored his first goal of the season on a failed clearance on a corner kick, the eventual game winning goal. An assist on the play was credited to Dakota Shelton. Diego Fontes led the Golden Eagles with four shots on the day.
"We are a young group that is eager to get better and also have some great leaders on the field, and we will continue to look to them to help us develop, to reach the team goals we have set for ourselves" Said Head Coach Jesse Olivas.
The Golden Eagles are home to face the Tigers of Occidental College next Saturday night with a 7:30pm start.
