Game 1- Lost 11-0, score was 1-0 through four complete innings Kenny Curiel keep San Diego Christian's offense under control until the 5th inning. A few defensive mistakes and timely hitting lead to a 10 run inning. Senior transfer Manny Sanchez lead the game off with a stand up double down the left field line, but the Golden Eagles could not score him from second base. The Golden Eagles also stranded 6 baserunners.
Game 2- Lost 3-1, Freshman Pitcher Tyler Sirna started his college career throwing a 1 hit complete game. Sirna gave up the lone hit a homerun to SDCC third basemen Chris Pasqual with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th in a 7 inning competition. Sirna, dispite his one hit effort, walked 5 batters which lead to 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Sirna also stuckout 3 batters in his debut. The Golden Eagles out hit the Hawks 6 to 1 but again failed to capitalize this time leaving 7 runners on base and 4 in scoring position. Offensively La Sierra University was lead by Senior standouts Manny Sanchez (2 for 4, two singles) and Kenny Curiel ( 2 for 2, with a double, walk and a hit by pitch) Curiel reached base every at bat.
Coach Gamboa: "We competed for all but one inning and that cost us, offensively we need to take advantage of the opportunities given to us. We have a young talented group and we'll get better."
The Golden Eagles roster has 8 freshmen and start 4 defensively.
Coach Gamboa: "When our young guys start getting used to the pitching at this level, good things will happen."
The Golden Eagles start the season 0-2 and play again on Sunday where they head to Occidental College for a Double Header.
