The Banana Slugs would take the one goal lead into the half which would stand until Ruben Solis scored in the 57th minute on an assist from Edgar Padilla. Brent Godlewski put Santa Cruz back on top, 2-1, in the 75th minute, with a goal on an assist by DJ Fuller. But the Golden Eagles would not be denied. Kenneth Henry, from nearby Concord, California, scored the equalizer in the 84th minute, assisted by Padilla. Two minutes later, Henry scored the game winner, from Roman Santiago, for the win.
La Sierra's offense pressured the Santa Cruz defense all
match long finishing with a total of 23 shots to only nine for the Banana Slugs. "Our midfield did a great job this weekend, controlling the midfield and giving us a chance to stay in these games," said head coach Jesse Olivas. The Golden Eagles led the match with seven
shots on goal compatred to only three for UC
"it was a good way to end this trip," said Olivas. "We got out to a slow start but managed to stay in the game and get the result."
