Riverside, CA - Biola swept La Sierra in the afternoon doubleheader. Biola won Game 1 by a final of 6-1 and controlled Game 2, winning 13-2 in six innings.
In Game 1 the Golden Eagles were held scoreless for the first six innings before scoring their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Violet McGowen.
The Golden Eagles scored the one run on five hits. Halley Nicholas was busy in center field with six total putouts.
Pitcher Aleena Bahling (1-4) is charged with the loss. Bahling surrendered five earned runs on 14 hits, through seven complete innings.
Biola carried the momentum into Game 2, scoring four runs in the second inning and never looking back. They tacked on two runs in third inning and again in the fifth inning, before breaking the game open and sealing the victory with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.
The Golden Eagles were able to extend the game with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Violet McGowen and Ashlee Gutierrez each had RBI singles, accounting for the two runs scored by La Sierra.
Joselyn Salazar (0-2) takes the loss, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits.
The Golden Eagles finished Game 2 with six total hits and left a total of seven runners on base. The team also committed three errors in the game.
La Sierra will look to improve on their 1-7 overall record this coming Monday afternoon. The team will travel to Vanguard University to play their rescheduled games from their January 25 rain out. The first game is scheduled for a 1:30pm first pitch.
