Riverside, CA - The Golden Eagles women's volleyball team will open the 2013 campaign tomorrow morning, looking to improve on a 21-13 record from last season. The will open the season playing four matches in two days, during the La Sierra University Invitational Tournament.
They also enter the season as a potential favorite in the Cal Pac Conference, marking their inaugural season in the Cal Pac Conference. The Golden Eagles finished a perfect 7-0 last season against Cal Pac competition.
The team returns 13 players from last year's roster, including outside hitter, Robyn Miller who used a redshirt season last year. In addition to Miller, Lina Semaia, Siao Malepeai, and Lupe Garcia will be looked upon to fill the void left by Shelby Madigan who completed her eligibility last fall. The team will also rely heavily on senior setter Colleen Stafford for her leadership on and off the floor.
After opening play with this week's tournament, the Golden Eagles will play two non-conference games against Hope International University and Westmont College, prior to opening Cal Pac play against Pacific Union College at home, on September 10.
Coach Erin Conley, entering her fifth season as the head coach, is hoping that the dedication and hard work this team has put in, during the offseason, will pay off. With the mix of experience and some key additions, the team is ready to begin the competition for a Cal Pac Conference championship.
