Game 1: After scoreless first and second inning, the Golden Eagles took the first lead of the game, when outfielder Erika Basurto doubled to right field, allowing Melanie Vidarri to score on the throw to second base, in an attempt to catch Basurto.
The Bulldogs quickly answered back and took the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the third inning, on a 3-run homerun by Amanda Lievanos.
La Sierra got one of the runs back in the top of the fourth inning when Katie Witherby connected on an RBI double to right center field, scoring Angel Zazueta, cutting the lead to 3-2.
The Golden Eagles regained the lead with two more runs in the fifth inning. Catcher Brianna Gutierrez knocked a double to left center, scoring Basurto and Vidarri, for the 4-3 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom half of the inning, when a throwing error by the Golden Eagles allowed Amanda Clark to score the tying run.
After a scoreless sixth inning, the Bulldogs kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh; setting up a walk-off scenario. And walk-off they did. Vicki King singled home the winning run, securing the 5-4 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
Kaitlyn Hooper came in in relief to pick up the win for Redlands, while Emily Campos, who relieved Aleena Bahling in the fifth inning, is charged with the loss.
Vidarri, Basurto, and Gutierrez each finished with two hits apiece, tallying six of the nine Golden Eagles hits. Gutirrez had two of the three RBI's, while Witherby collected the third RBI for La Sierra.
Game 2: In similar fashion to the first game, the Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top half of the first inning. La Sierra scored a run when Witherby singled to the pitcher, scoring Basurto from third base.
Also in similar fashion, the Bulldogs answered back in a big way in their half of the first inning, with a grand slam homerun by Vicki King.
The Golden Eagles fought their way back to within one run, 4-3, when Brittany Martinez launched a 2-run homerun over the centerfield fence, also scoring Basurto.
But that would be as close as the Golden Eagles would get. Redlands scored an insurance run in the bottom half of the third inning, on their way to the 5-3 win.
Vidarri and Witherby led the team with two hits each, and collecting four of the team's six total hits. Martinez finished with two RBI's in the game, with Witherby collecting the third RBI for the Golden Eagles.
Starting pitcher Kaitlyn Hooper picked up her second win on the day, while Jackie Zacarias was charged with the loss.
The women's softball team will travel to Vanguard University this coming Friday, for an afternoon doubleheader.
