Redlands, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team jumped back into the win column with an 8-4 win against the University of Redlands this afternoon, splitting the two games of today's doubleheader.
David Lara-Oliveras picked up his first win of the season, pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up just one run on four hits.
La Sierra took the early lead with a run in each of the 3rd and 4th innings. The Bulldogs were able to cut the lead in half with a run in the 6th inning, but the Golden Eagles would not be denied their victory as they scored three runs in the 7th and another three runs in the 9th, for an 8-4 win.
Both teams finished with 12 hits apiece. Jake Magness led La Sierra going 3-for-4 in Game 1. Marquis Kidd, Brian Burgin, and Rico Alanis each collected two hits in the victory. Magness also led the team with three RBI's, followed by Burgin and Alanis who each tallied two RBI's. Joe Mascarenaz was 1-for-1 with an RBI.
Game 2 was a seven-inning affair that proved to come down to one costly inning for the Golden Eagles. After the two teams each scored two runs in the 2nd inning, the Bulldogs took control of the game by scoring five runs in the bottom half of the 4th inning, to take a 7-2 lead.
Redlands tallied five of their 11 hits in their 5-run 4th inning. La Sierra was able to score a run in the each of the final two innings, but it wasn't enough catch the Bulldogs, and they settled for the split.
Brian Burgin had another productive game, going 2-for-4 in Game 2, while Magness, Mascarenaz, and Rick Alvarez each tallied an RBI for the Golden Eagles.
The win pushes the Golden Eagles record to 2-17 on the season. They will take a day off before travelling north for a three game series against Menlo College, starting on Tuesday afternoon.
