Congratulations to Berlyn Benavides and Brianna Gutierrez on being named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes. Benavides and Gutierrez join a group of 10 other Cal Pac softball student-athletes who achieved this recognition. Nationally, they are two of 395 NAIA softball players named to the list.
NAIA student-athletes are nominated by their respective institution, during their season of competition, for maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, in addition to having achieved academic standing as a junior.
This is the second straight year that Gutierrez has made this distinguished list. It is the first year for Benavides, who made the list in the first year she is eligible to do so.
Benavides and Gutierrez also join eight other Golden Eagles student-athletes who have been named Scholar-Athletes, in their respective sport, during this academic year. The total of 10 nominations is the highest number, on record, for the Golden Eagles athletic department, A record, the program hopes to break year in and year out.
