Angwin, Calif. - The cross-country season got underway this weekend, with the men's and women's team competing in the Pacific Union College Pioneers Invitational. It was the first of a handful of meets that the team will participate in this season. The Golden Eagles women placed second, behind UC Santa Cruz, while the men didn't field enough runners to score as a team.
Jennifer Gonzalez finished first overall on the women's side, with a time of 22:57. Celina Calderon (24:33) finished seventh overall, with Trinity Mays (27:21) and Destinee Mireles (27:50) finishing 14th and 16th, respectively.
Guage Hill was the first to cross the finish line for the Golden Eagles men's squad. Hill finished with a time of 35:00, which was good for 24th place. Josue Meza was close behind, in 32nd position, with a time of 37:51. Luis Hidalgo rounded things out for La Sierra.
With the cancellation of Riverside Community College's Invitational Meet, the Golden Eagles will now prepare for their own invitational, which will take place on Friday, October 13th.
