Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team won their fifth straight match in defeating Providence Christian College, 4-0, to open the Cal Pac schedule with a perfect 3-0 record. Israel Vazquez, the reigning Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week, had another stellar performance with two goals and an assist in the victory. The Seabeggars fall to 2-5-1 on the season, including 0-2 in the Cal Pac.
Vasquez quickly gave the Golden Eagles some breathing room, by scoring two goals in a span of 10 seconds. All four of La Sierra's goals were scored in the first half. Vasquez's two goals came in the 28th minute, while the other two goals were scored in the 38th minute and the 40th minute.
It was another dominating performance by the Golden Eagles who spent most of the evening in their offensive zone. La Sierra finished with a total of 28 shots compared to only two shots for the Seabeggars. The Golden Eagles peppered Providence's goalkeeper, Josiah Vanderveen, with 12 shots on goal, while the Seabeggars were unable to threaten the Golden Eagles goal with a single shot.
The team will look to take their growing confidence and momentum into Sunday's match against the University of Antelope Valley. The Pioneers are currently 1-0-1 in Cal Pac play, with a record of 3-5-1 overall. Last season, the Pioneers were able to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Golden Eagles in their only meeting of the season. The overall record between the two programs is 1-1-1, with each team looking to take the advantage in Sunday's match, kicking off at 7:30pm.
