Riverside, Calif. - Mariah Anaya scored a goal and assisted on another to help lead her team to a 2-1 victory over Soka University. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-1 in Cal Pac conference play (10-1 overall). La Sierra currently sits behind the University of Antelope Valley and Embry-Riddle University in the conference standings.
Anaya, put the Golden Eagles on the board early (13th minute), by intercepting a clearance and putting the ball in the back of the net, unassisted. La Sierra took the one goal lead into the half, but Soka tied the match at 1-1 in the 51st minute.
The match remained tied until Marissa Gonzalez, the reigning Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Week, converted a header from Anaya, off of a corner kick, for the game-winning goal.
The match was relatively even statistically with the Golden Eagles taking 20 shots compared to 18 for the Lions, with Soka holding a slight advantage in shots-on-goal, 11-9. Lauren Holly picked up the win, allowing one goal and making 10 saves.
On Thursday, the women's soccer team will travel to Cal Tech for a non-conference match. The Beavers are currently 1-7 on the season. Kick-off is set for 3pm.
