La Sierra was in complete control of the game as it defeated
San Diego Christian University 2-1 on Thursday evening. Shane Shelton scored
his first goal of the match, with the assist given to Luis Escamilla in the 22
minute of the game.
Early in the second half, with the score 1-0 the official -made a call that
coach Olivas thinks was a bit harsh- awarding a red card bringing the Golden Eagles
to play 40 plus minutes with a man down. "It was a questionable call, but
I guess he is the man in charge and we have to respect his decision whether we
agree with it or not" Said coach about the card. Despite being a man down
the Golden Eagles still managed to create plenty of chances, and on the 78th
minute of the game, Shane Shelton (Yucca Valley) scored his second goal of a
corner kick, putting the eagles up by 2.
Physical play continue as there were more than 40 fouls recorded in the game.
the official allowed a total of 7 extra minutes, and awarded the visiting team
a penalty kick in the 97th minute of the game, bringing the final score to to
2-1.
"We were able to set the tempo of the game, and were able to keep it
through out the game, even being a man down we kept focused and did not allowed
them to create many opportunities, we stayed organized and were able to get the
win'
