The La Sierra Women's basketball team, led by sophomore guard Joirdan
Jones' 20 points and 4 rebounds soundly defeated the Sagehens of
Pomona-Pitzer College on Tuesday night. Jones was 8-13 from the field
and a blistering 4-7 from behind the arc.After a sluggish start The Golden Eagles led at half-time 31-27. La
Sierra had their biggest lead of 11 points at 27-16 with five minutes
to go in the first half, only to see the host Sagehens respond with a
11-4 run, including a basket with 2 seconds remaining in the half.
The Golden Eagles came out hot in the second half and behind senior
center Ashley Baumgaertel's intense rebounding effort, quickly built
the lead to 25 points. At that point the ladies never looked back and
cruised to a 68-51 victory. In addition to Jones' 20 points, the
Golden Eagles were paced by Ashley Baumgaertel's 14 points and 12
rebounds and Freshman Brittani Walker with a career high 12 points.
La Sierra out rebounded the Sagehens 44-37 and added a season high 20
assists. Pomona-Pitzer was led by Vanessa Ho with 14 points off the
bench and Emi Hashizume with 13 points.
"It was a good win" said coach Thorson, we had contributions from each
player. "it was an all around team effort, and I am proud of all the
work each player has put in" said the Head Coach. "We will continue to
work and get better each day" Thorson said.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday night, Dec. 1 as they
travel across town to play the highly ranked NCAA Div. II Cal Baptist
Lancers. That game will tip at 6pm and can be seen live on the CBU
Lancers' website. La Sierra will be back at home on Saturday night,
Dec. 3 as they host the Claremont-Scripps Athenas at 6pm. That game,
