A 33 consecutive game losing streak to Chapman University came to end with an 80-77 victory Saturday night February 11, 2012 at Chapman University. Dating back to the late 1990's, La Sierra Men's Basketball Team had lost to Chapman University 33 times by an average of 22 points per game. Senior DePaul Williams said he hoped before he graduated to make history and defeat the panthers. Senior Miles Robbins recalls the bitter taste in his mouth losing to them for three years and ten games. But today, school history was made.
The turning point in the game was when Chapman was ahead 77-75, and a decisive three-point shot from La Sierra junior guard Bennett Shaw shifted the momentum to the Golden Eagles with: 39 seconds left in the game, giving La Sierra their first lead since the 17:18 mark in the second half. "We never gave up when we got behind," said Coach Robbins. "It was a total team effort." Bennett Shaw led with 19 points, Daveon Woods added 18 points, Miles Robbins contributed 12 points, Kenny Penn recorded 14 rebounds and 8 points and DePaul Williams finished with 9 points. This is a La Sierra team who won this game together, so many contributions from the entire team. "This was, and will be, a special moment in time for us." Coach Robbins said. "No one can take it away."
