La Sierra Softball team defeated Pomona Pitzer 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.


The Golden Eagles were down 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th inning before scoring 2 runs and sending the game to extra inning. Michelle Zimprich scored the first run for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the 7th inning to set the score 3-2 Pomona. With 2 outs and a runner in third base, Raeven Ball singled to left center to allowed Melissa Ortiz to score and tie the game 3-3 and sent it to extra inning.

This was the second time this season that the Golden Eagles would play extra innings; the first time the Golden Eagles lost to Occidental College 7-6. Both teams (La Sierra & Pomona) went scoreless during the 8th and 9th inning. During the top of the 10th inning, Pomona went scoreless with Marcantoni struck-out out swinging, Bleichner filed out to right center, and Glass filed out to right for Pomona.

With the tie-breaking rule putting Michelle Zimprich at second base at the start of the 10th inning, Melisa Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly to the infield and allowing Michelle Zimprich to advance to third. With a runner at third, Barbara Torres singled to the infield bringing Zimprich home and giving the Golden Eagles the victory over Pomona Pitzer. The final score was 4-3 after 10 innings.


Michelle Zimprich led the Golden Eagles with 3 runs and 2 hits, Melissa Ortiz scored the other run. Both Barbara Torres and Raeven Ball got an RBI.


The next game for the Golden Eagles is on Friday March 2 @ 12:30pm.
