Angwin, CA-After their original season opening match was rescheduled, the Golden Eagles men's soccer team got their season underway this afternoon with a match against Walla Walla University, which was played at Pacific Union College. The Golden Eagles took control of the match from the beginning, eventually defeating the Wolves 3-0.

The match remained scoreless until La Sierra's senior forward, Anthony Trevino, found the back of the net after beating his defender to give the Golden Eagles the lead, in the 27th minute, assisted by Edgar Padilla. A goal by Cole King, on an assist by Diego Fontes, pushed the lead to 2-0 only three minutes later. In the 39th minute, it was Joel Hernandez who closed out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.  The two teams played to a scoreless second half.

La Sierra was able to control the match, holding the Wolves to a total of five shots and only two of those shots were shots on goal. The Golden Eagles finished with 20 total shots and eight shots on goal. With the win, senior goalkeeper Peter Martinez picks up his first win of the season, after taking over starting job for the Golden Eagles.

"I felt like the guys did a great job of creating scoring opportunities," said head coach Jessie Olivas.  "As a team, I would like to see us play with a little more consistency."

The men's soccer team will take a day off before jumping back into action when they travel to William Jessup University (Rocklin, CA) on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm. The match will be the season opening match for the Warriors who finished with a 6-10 overall record last season. The match will be played at Mahany Field at the Roseville Sports Center.
