Rocklin, CA - Playing their second of two matches, on their northern California trip, to start the 2012 campaign, the Golden Eagles defeated the William Jessup University Warriors (Rocklin, CA) 3-0. After winning their season opener against Walla Walla University, on Monday, La Sierra was looking to carry that momentum into their second match of the season. For the second match in as many matches, the Golden Eagles controlled play from the outset.
The Golden Eagles dominated the match on both ends of the field. On the defensive end of the field, the Warriors were held to only three total shots, with no shots on goal. On the offensive end, it was all Golden Eagles who finished the match with a total of 27 shots, with 15 shots on goal. Out of the 15 shots on goal, the Golden Eagles were able to get three past freshmen goalkeeper Zach Kammer.
In his first match of the season, junior transfer Kenneth
Henry scored the first of two goals in the 31st minute, assisted by
Edgar Padilla, to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead at the half. Early into the second half, Diego Fontes set
up Henry for his second goal of the match in the 47th minute for a
2-0 lead. Senior midfielder Sid Dube
closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 51st
"The team showed improvements from the previous match," said head coach Jessie Olivas. "There [are still things] we need to improve on and we will work on those in the upcoming practice sessions."
With the win, the Golden Eagles push their record to 2-0 on the young season. Next up for La Sierra will be Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, when they travel to Prescott, Arizona, in a battle of the Eagles. The match is scheduled for a 6:00pm start. The Golden Eagles home opener is now scheduled for September 8, at 8:00pm, versus Pacific Union College.
