Redlands, CA - Playing the first of five matches this weekend, the Golden Eagles pushed their record to 6-2, with a 3-0 win over the University of Redlands Bulldogs. The Bulldogs, playing in their season opener, fell to the Golden Eagles in three straight games, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was junior outside hitter Lupe Garcia with 10 kills and seven digs. Ashley Sanchez added eight kills and Lina Semaia and Shelby Madigan contributed seven kills and six kills, respectively. Madigan also added six digs for the match. Setter Colleen Stafford led all players with 28 assists and 13 digs, both game highs.
Ashton Martin led the Bulldogs with eight kills and seven digs. Alisha Cornick added 15 assists and Courtney Johnson led the team with nine digs. As a team, the Bulldogs were unable to muster any momentum, helping La Sierra with more attack errors (29) than total kills (27).
Today's victory marked the first road victory of the season for the Golden Eagles. This next month, the Golden Eagles will play 13 of their 14 matches on the road. Four of those matches will take place this weekend when the team travels to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a tournament in which the Golden Eagles will play Carroll College on Saturday night, followed by three matches on Sunday versus, University of Great Falls, Rocky Mountain College, and Montana State University-Northern.
