Merced, CA - The women's volleyball team jumped back into action after what seems like an eternity, after their busiest stretch of the season last week. It was a stretch that saw the team play eight matches in nine days. So after two days off, the Golden Eagles travelled to UC-Merced this evening, in the first of four matches on their northern California tour. On this night, La Sierra started their trip on a good note with a three-game sweep of the Bobcats, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.
La Sierra had three players who finished the match with nine kills and two more who contributed six kills. Shelby Madigan, Lina Semaia, and Lupe Garcia, the team's three leaders in kills, each had nine kills. Ashley Sanchez and Ashley Baumgaertel added six kills. Colleen Stafford led the way with 27 assists and Madigan led the Golden Eagles with 10 digs.
As a team, La Sierra finished with a .237 hitting percentage, as opposed to only .057 for the Bobcats. The Golden Eagles finished with 43 total kills. The Bobcats had 29 kills, but gave just as many points away with 23 attack errors.
The Golden Eagles improve to 11-6 with the win. They will travel up Rocklin, CA, tomorrow night, to face William Jessup University. Like the Bobcats, the Warriors are members of the California Pacific Conference. William Jessup is currently 2-14 on the season. The match is scheduled for a 7pm start and will be streamed live.
