The Golden Eagles men's soccer team traveled to Long Beach this afternoon, for their second meeting of the season with Marymount College. La Sierra dropped the first match, 2-4, between the two teams, back on September 23. Marymount College secured the season series victory with a 4-1 win over the Golden Eagles.
Marymount wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Sergio Torres gave the Mariners the early lead with a goal, assisted by Jason Milletti, in the 14th minute. Rimar Daisley West gave Marymount a two-goal lead, on an assist from Brian Ngang, in the 26th minute.
Early into the second half, Roman Santiago scored (unassisted) the lone goal for the Golden Eagles in the 50th minute, cutting the lead in half. But that's the closest La Sierra would get as the Mariners scored goals in the 62nd minute and 77th minute to seal the win.
La Sierra finished the match with twice the amount of total shots (14-7) and only one less shot on goal than the Mariners (5-4). The Golden Eagles also had the opportunity of eight corner kicks to none for the Mariners. But unable to take advantage of those opportunities the Golden Eagles dropped their eighth match of the season, dropping their record to 6-8-1.
With only two games remaining in their regular season schedule, the Golden Eagles will look to get back in the win column when they travel to CSU San Marcos on Friday afternoon, at 2pm. La Sierra will closeout the regular season at home in a match against Embry Riddle (AZ) on Sunday, October 28, at 1pm.
