The Golden Eagles women’s volleyball team arrived in Mayville, North Dakota, this morning to compete in the 2012 State Farm AII National Qualifying Tournament. La Sierra enters the tournament as the #4 seed, with an overall record of 21-11. Last season the Golden Eagles were defeated by CSU San Marcos, this year’s #1 seed, in the championship game.
The Golden Eagles will play the first match of the day tomorrow, against the host Mayville State University, at 9:00am CST. Mayville State is the #5 seed and finished the season with a record of 23-13. La Sierra will also face CSU San Marcos (24-13) in their second match of the day at 1:00pm CST. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The Golden Eagles took the first match back in August in five games, 3-2. San Marcos has defeated La Sierra in the next two matches in three straight games.
This is the second consecutive year the Golden Eagles have qualified and competed in the AII Conference Volleyball Tournament. After losing in the championship match last season, the Golden Eagles earned an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament, where they were ultimately defeated by Vanguard University. It was the first-ever berth in the NAIA National Tournament for La Sierra University in any sport. The Golden Eagles are anxious to build on last season’s postseason experience.
