La Mirada, CA - Looking to keep the momentum going from their first win of the season, over Cal Tech on Wednesday evening, the men's basketball team was back on the road at Biola University tonight. The Golden Eagles were hoping for a different outcome from their season-opening loss to Biola University, 50-75. This second meeting was a much tighter affair but Biola was still able to pull out the victory, 62-59.
The game was a tightly played contest throughout. Biola did push out to an 11-point lead early in the first half, but the rest of the game would be a back-and-forth battle. The Golden Eagles shot 30 more shots than Biola, primarily due to the fact that La Sierra out-rebounded Biola by 14 on the offensive boards, 22-8.
Biola shot an efficient 40-percent from beyond the arc on 6-of-15 shooting. The Golden Eagles were only able to connect on five of their 28 attempts from the 3-point line.
But Biola clearly took advantage of 24 trips to the free-throw line, hitting 20-of-24, finishing with a free-throw shooting percentage of 83-percent. Ironically, it was two free throws, by Biola's Dakota Anderson, with 46 seconds left to play that would put them in the lead to stay and secure their sixth victory on the season, against only two losses.
La Sierra falls to 1-6 on the season. They will remain on the road on Tuesday evening, when they make the short trip over to Cal Baptist University. Tuesday's game is scheduled for a 7:30pm start.
