Riverside, CA - Looking to rebound from a tough loss at The Master's College this past Thursday, the Golden Eagles were eager for their match-up with William Jessup tonight at the Alumni Pavilion. La Sierra jumped out of the blocks, building a modest lead that they enjoyed for the majority of the game. But the Warriors stormed back to tie the score at the eight-minute mark of the second half. A back-n-forth battle would ensue for the remainder of the game, with the Golden Eagles closing things out for the 62-57 win.

The Golden Eagles used solid defense to take an eight-point lead in the half, 31-23. They held the Warriors to 31-percent shooting on the night, on 19-of-61 from the field. La Sierra pushed their lead to 16 points in the early part of the second half. But the Warriors fought back and trimmed the lead to three points midway through the half. The Golden Eagles re-grouped and were able to close things out for their second win of the season.

Guard Bennett Shaw led the Golden Eagles with 18 points. Isaiah Hawkins cam off the bench to score 13 points and Javion Garner finished with 10 points. Taylor Scharfenberg added a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with eight points.

La Sierra finished with a slim lead in the rebounding battle, 39-35. As a team, they shot 20-of-42 (47%) from the field. They also connected for 36-percent of their 3-point shots, 4-of-11.

The Golden Eagles push their record to 2-8 on the season. The team will turn their attention to their final exams before hosting the La Sierra University Basketball Tournament. They will play Oakwood College (Alabama) on Saturday night, at 8pm, followed by a match-up with Pacific Union College (Angwin, CA) on Sunday evening. They will close the tournament out on Monday afternoon against Andrews University (Mich.).
