Due to a scheduling issue La Sierra University ended up with two matches on the same day. While other schools may have found that to be extremely difficult, Coach Erin Conley, who has stressed fitness this year, saw no problem with it. Apparently her team had no problem with it either. The Golden Eagles swept Mills College 3-0 in the mid day match, then came back and swept Cal Tech 3-0 in the afternoon match.
Coach Conley was impressed with her teams perfomance, "We played good, aggressive volleyball today," she commented after the second match. Caitlin Haughton, a stand out player for La Sierra said, "As a team, our communication was good, it was fun out there."
Rosanne Ornopla was singled out by the coaching staff as the player of the game for the Mills contest. Her 4 digs and 6 aces led the Golden Eagles on defense. Rebecca Barcelo was chosen for the honor in the Cal Tech match with a .555 hitting average.
After a tough first match, Samantha Arriaran made sure La Sierra started well against Cal Tech by serving the Golden Eagles to an 8-0 run in the first game.
