Riverside, CA - Back on November 3, 2012, travelled to La Mirada. It was the Golden Eagles third game of the season and the season opener for Biola. Biola eventually went on to defeat La Sierra 76-42 in that game.
Three-and-a-half months later, the two teams would meet again in the Golden Eagles final regular season game of the year.
From the get-go, the La Sierra was up for the challenge. The Golden Eagles led for the majority of the first half, leading by as many as six points late in the half. They would eventually go into the half with a 30-27 lead over Biola.
In the second half both teams dug in defensively. Both teams struggled to score in the half. But Biola was able to capitalize on enough of their free throws to eventually take the lead midway through the second half.
At that point it was a back-and-forth battle that consisted of five ties and seven lead changes. But the Golden Eagles weren't going to go quietly. With just under a minute to play, Biola held on to a 49-47 lead, but La Sierra was unable to close the gap further and were forced to foul Biola who secured the victory at the free throw line.
Biola converted on 14 of their 26 trips to the charity stripe while the Golden Eagles made four of their five attempts.
La Sierra shot 33-percent from the field, slightly better than Biola who shot 28-percent for the game.
Natalia Hawthorne led all players with 22 points, including 4-of-8 from the 3-point line. Joirdan Jones added 11 point and five rebounds while Shelby Madigan pitched in with 10 points.
