Riverside, CA - The Golden Eagles baseball team is still in search of their first win of the season after their most recent loss, to Cal State San Marcos this afternoon. The Cougars entered the game boasting an undefeated record of 8-0, pushing it to 9-0 by defeating La Sierra 8-1.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring four runs on three hits, in the bottom of the 2nd inning. San Marcos tacked on one run in each of the next two innings, adding two more runs in the bottom of the 5th.
La Sierra scored their lone run of the game in the 8th inning on an RBI single by Luis Holguin, scoring Joe Mascarenaz who reached base with a lead-off single and subsequently stole second base.
Steve Messner (1-0) picked up the win for the Cougars while Connor Gregario (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles, now 0-11 on the season, will get another shot at Cal State San Marcos when they return to play a doubleheader against the Cougars on Sunday afternoon.
