San Marcos, CA - La Sierra split today's games, played at the Cougar Clash, hosted by Cal State San Marcos. The Golden Eagles soundly defeated Arizona Christian University in the first game, before dropping the second game to Hope International University.
The Golden Eagles scored a season-high 15 runs on nine hits in a 15-3 win over Arizona Christian in the first game.
Arizona Christian jumped out to an early lead by scoring two runs in the second inning, to lead 3-1, but it was all La Sierra after that. La Sierra went on to score three runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth inning, and seven runs in the fifth inning on their way to securing the victory.
Outfielder Ashlee Gutierrez went 2 for 3, including a double and a homerun, and finished the game with six RBI's. Pamela Gomez also went 2 for 3 and tallied three RBI's of her own while Jennifer Duenas added two RBI's in the game.
Pitcher Aleena Bahling (2-5) picked up the win, going five innings and giving up three unearned runs on just two hits, with five strikeouts and only one walk.
In Game 2, La Sierra lost to the Royals of Hope International University by a final of 4-0.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Royals pushed across three runs in the inning. They added another run in the sixth inning on their way to victory. Three of the Royals four runs were unearned.
In the loss, La Sierra spread out a total of seven hits in the game while leaving a total of eight runners on base. In comparison, the Royals scored their four runs on 14 hits and left a total of 13 runners on base.
Liz Gonzales (3-2) went a complete game to pick up the win, striking out two and giving up one walk. Brianna Sarabia (0-2) is charged with the loss.
La Sierra, now 2-13 on the season, will take tomorrow off before getting back into action on Sunday. The Golden Eagles will play two more games at the Cougar Class on Sunday afternoon. Their first game will be another match-up with Arizona Christian, which is set to begin at 11am. The second game will feature the host school, Cal State San Marcos, scheduled for a 1pm first pitch.
