Riverside, CA - In town for their southern California swing, the softball team played host to Simpson University this afternoon.
The Golden Eagles were looking to get back in the win column and end a four game losing streak. But La Sierra was unable to end that streak, losing both games by a final of 5-2 and 9-3.
The first game of the doubleheader was hard fought game, but three runs in the top of the seventh inning secured victory for Simpson.
After Simpson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the Golden Eagles answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, on a two-run shot by Aleena Bahling just over the left field fence and just inside the foul pole.
The game remained tied until the seventh when the Red Hawks struck for three runs on four hits, on their way to the 5-2 win.
Despite the loss, Bahling went 3 for 3 in the game with two RBI's. Jennifer Duenas had two hits in the game, while Diamond Turner, Taylor Griego, and Joselyn Salazar each added a hit in the game.
Simpson wasted no time in the second game, scoring five runs on five hits and with the help of two Golden Eagles errors, in the top of the first inning.
The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the second inning and another run in the third, but the Red Hawks shut the door on any thoughts of a comeback with four more runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Both teams finished with 11 hits in Game 2.
Griego was 2 for 3 in the second game. Turner also pitched in with two hits, going 2 for 4 in the game. Joselyn Salazar and Pamela Gomez each finished 1 for 1, collecting two RBI's and one RBI respectively.
The team is now 4-23 on the season. They will head down the street on Tuesday to face Cal Baptist University, with the first game set to start at 5pm. They will follow things up with a doubleheader at Pomona Pitzer on Wednesday evening starting at 4pm. The Golden Eagles return home a week from Friday when they host Vanguard University on April 5.
