Riverside, CA - The softball team made the short trek over to California Baptist University this evening, looking to get back in the win column. But the Lancers swept the Golden Eagles in the evening doubleheader, 5-2 and 9-2.
In the first game, the two teams played to a scoreless tie until the Lancers were able to break the game open with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cal Baptist added another run in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead into the final inning of play.
La Sierra was able to push across two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a single by Pamela Gomez that scored Ashlee Gutierrez and Ali Rios.
The Golden Eagles finished a total of five hits in the game.
The Lancers took control early in the second game by scoring five runs in the first inning.
Cal Baptist never looked back from there, holding the Golden Eagles to just two runs on four hits in the game.
Jennifer Duenas picked up two of the hits, going 2 for 4. Dani Finney finished 1 for 2 and collected both RBI's for La Sierra, while Diamond Turner also went 1 for 2 and scored both of the Golden Eagles runs.
The Golden Eagles record falls to 4-25 on the year. They will attempt to turn things around quickly as they travel to Pomona Pitzer this evening for a single game, starting at 4pm.
