San Marcos, CA - The Golden Eagles baseball team returned to No. 11 Cal State San Marcos this afternoon looking to avenge their two losses from Friday afternoon. But Sunday's doubleheader resulted in two losses to the Cougars 7-2 and 8-0.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, in the first game of the doubleheader, scoring two runs in the first inning. But the La Sierra would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Cougars struck for four runs in the third inning, another in the fifth, and two more in the seventh inning.
La Sierra was held to just two hits in Game 1, with catcher James Rael and first baseman Luis Holguin picking up the two hits.
The Golden Eagles dropped Game 2 by final of 8-0. They finished the game with five hits and left seven runners on base.
Outfielder Adrian Gardea led the team by going 2 for 3 in the game. A game which was tight until the Cougars broke things open with a 5-run sixth inning.
San Marcos took the early lead with a run in the third inning and they added a run in each of the next two innings, before securing the victory in the sixth.
The two losses drop the Golden Eagles to 2-28 on the season. The team will return to the University of Antelope Valley this coming Friday for an afternoon doubleheader, starting at 11am.
