Riverside, Calif. - Looking to carry the momentum built during last week's La Sierra University Invitational, the Golden Eagles (5-0) played host to Hope International University (Fullerton, Calif.), who they defeated in Friday's finale. Tonight's match wasn't quite a carbon copy, but there were some similarities, as the Golden Eagles defeated the Royals (3-6) in four sets, 25-21, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21.
Junior outside hitter Lina Semaia, led the Golden Eagles with 19 kill on 35 total attempts (.314). Abby Latuhoi added nine kills along with four block assists and one solo block. Lupe Garcia and Robyn Miller, who earlier in the day was named Cal Pac Player of the Week, each had seven kills in the match.
Senior setter Colleen Stafford collected 39 assists and 11 digs on the night, while libero Chantal Washington led the team defensively with 12 digs in addition to three service aces, also a team high. Senior Ana Flores also pitched in with 11 digs and two service aces.
Katie Landazuri who finished with 12 kills, seven digs, and six service aces led Royals. Summer Mitchell pitched in with 10 kills, four digs, and four block assists.
La Sierra will look to make it six in a row as they hit the road for the first time this season, travelling to #16 Westmont College (Santa Barbara, Calif.). Westmont is also undefeated to start the season, having won their first 10 matches of the year. Friday's match is scheduled for a 4:30pm start time and will be streamed live.
