Angwin, Calif. - The men's soccer team defeated the Pioneers, of Pacific Union College (Angwin, Calif.), for their second win of the season. The Golden Eagles (2-1, 2-0) scored eight goals I their second Cal Pac match this week.
at William Jessup, notched a hat trick by scoring three goals in today's victory over Pacific Union.
Henry started the scoring, with what proved to be the game-winning goal, with a goal just over two minutes into the match, assisted by Edgar Padilla. He added goals two and three in the 47th minute and 65th minute, respectively. Henry leads the team with five goals on the season, through three matches.
Darren Bonanken scored his first two goals of the season in the 34th minute and another in the 77th minute.
Rounding out the scoring was Jonas Ornelas who scored the second goal of the match in the 27th minute. Senior Roman Sanitago scored his first goal of the season in the 77th minute, just 27 seconds after Bonanken scored the sixth goal for La Sierra. While junior transfer Fredy Diaz closed out the scoring in the 85th minute.
All goals, with the exception of the game-winning goal, came unassisted.
The Golden Eagles defense also dominated, allowing only one shot on goal on only two total shots. La Sierra's defenders, in front of starting goalie Alonso Lara, limited any scoring chances the Pioneers had.
As a team, the Golden Eagles finished the match with 17 shots on goal with 37 total shots.
The men's soccer team will return home to host Biola University, in a non-conference match, on Tuesday evening. Tuesday's match is scheduled to kick-off at 6:00pm.
