Santa Barbara, Calif. - After starting the season with a perfect 5-0 record, the women's volleyball team suffered their first loss today, on the road, at #16 Westmont College (11-0). Both teams entered the match with no losses, but only the Warriors emerged unscathed, by defeating the Golden Eagles (5-1) in four sets, 25-27, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16.
La Sierra jumped out of the gates, winning the first set of the match. The Golden Eagles carried the momentum into the second set, leading for the first half of the set, until the Warriors squeaked out a second set victory. Westmont seemed in control of the match, cruising to victory in the final two sets.
Lina Semaia led the Golden Eagles with 15 kills, followed by Lupe Garcia who tallied 10 kill with only three errors. Robyn Miller added nine kills in the match.
Colleen Stafford finished with 34 assists, while Chantal Washington led the team with 13 digs.
The Warriors were led by Madison Serrano who had a match-high 19 kills on 35 attempts (.429). Serrano also added a match-high 15 digs.
La Sierra will return to their home court on Tuesday evening, when they open Cal Pac Conference play against Pacific Union College. Tuesday's match is scheduled to start at 8:00pm.
