Costa Mesa, Calif. - After their thrilling conference victory, over Pacific Union College this past Tuesday, the Golden Eagles (6-3, 1-0) traveled to Costa Mesa, to take part in the Vanguard University Tournament.
Their first match was a morning match-up with #4 Biola University (7-0). The Golden Eagles dropped the match in three straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15. La Sierra was unable to keep pace as Biola won every category.
Lina Semaia led the team with 10 kills in the loss. Lupe Garcia added six kills on 14 attempts with no attack errors (.429).
Biola had two players, Chelsee Arnitz and Alyssa Mason, who each tallied 11 kills in the match. Libero Tara Rallis finished with a match-high 12 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Golden Eagles went up against the host institution, Vanguard University (10-2). The Lions defeated La Sierra in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.
The Golden Eagles had finished with more kills (33) than their first match, but didn't help themselves with 21 attack errors.
Robyn Miller and Garcia led the team with 10 kills, with Colleen Stafford collecting 26 assists and Chantal Washington adding nine digs.
The Lions were led by Jessica Neves who finished with a match-high 15 kills. As a team, the Lions had 42 kills with only 13 errors on 99 total attempts (.293).
La Sierra will close the tournament with a match tomorrow night against CSU San Marcos, at 7:30pm.
