Riverside, Calif. - Taking a break from conference play, the Golden Eagles hosted the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos.  La Sierra was looking to avenge a 2-1 loss at San Marcos last season, but two second-half goals by the Cougars eliminated that possibility.

The Golden Eagles (7-5, 7-2 Cal Pac) struck first when Roman Santiago found the back of the net with a shot from the inside of the box to the top left corner, to give La Sierra a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute.  It was a lead they would maintain until Alex Jaziri tied the score at 1-1, in the 64th minute.  About one minute late Yuki Hata scored the game-winner on a shot from outside the box that was able to sneak by goalkeeper Roberto Rodriquez, who finished with six saves on the night.

It was a relatively evenly played match, with La Sierra finishing with a slight lead in shots-on-goal (12-11) and total shots (18-16).  Santiago led the Golden Eagles with three shots-on-goal, while Thor English led the Cougars with three of his own.

Despite this non-conference loss, La Sierra remains in the Cal Pac Conference playoff race, with four matches remaining in the regular season.  All four remaining matches are conference matches.  They will start with two road matches, at Marymount College on Tuesday, and at Embry Riddle next Sunday.  The Golden Eagles will close out the regular season with two home matches against Embry Riddle and UC Merced, on November 3 and 10, respectively.
