Riverside, Calif. - The men's soccer team entered Sunday's match with Embry Riddle, looking to avenge last weekend's loss in Prescott, Arizona, and also looking to stay in the Cal Pac playoff picture. But after a physical, hard fought match-up, Embry Riddle swept the season series with a 2-1 win over La Sierra this afternoon.
Embry Riddle wasted no time getting on the board when Isaac Sanchez scored (5th minute) his first of two goals, off of a cross by Fabio Pena, for a 1-0 lead. They would carry that lead into the half. But it wouldn't last for long, as Sid Dube used a header to capitalize on a thrown-in by Jordan Davis in the 48th minute, to tie the score at 1-1.
The match would remain tied until the 62nd minute, when Embry Riddle was awarded a penalty kick. Once again it was Sanchez who scored the eventual game winner, after putting in his own rebound off the initial save by La Sierra's goalkeeper Alonso Lara.
The Golden Eagles (7-8, 7-5 Cal Pac) now find themselves in a must win situation going into their final regular season match. La Sierra needs a win over UC Merced this next Sunday afternoon and they will also be looking for some help along the way. Sunday's match, scheduled for 12:00pm, will also be "Senior Day".
