Riverside, Calif. - The men's basketball team was looking to rebound from their loss to Menlo on Saturday night, in their Cal Pac opener, as they played host to Biola University this evening.
Biola jumped out to the early 10-3 lead, before the Golden Eagles answered back with a 13-3 run to take a 16-13 lead eight minutes into the contest. For the remainder of the first half, it was a back-and-forth affair with the Golden Eagles taking a slight lead, 31-30, into halftime.
In the second half, the two teams played to a 41-41 tie in the first five minutes, but over the next five minutes, Biola used a 12-2 run to push their lead to 10 points. It was a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
In his second game of the season, Kourtney Maxim had another impressive performance with 18 points. Daveon Woods added 14 points, with the majority of his scoring coming on free-throws. Freshmen guard Wolfgang Wood pitched in with 12 points, while Garrett Kiefer led the team with eight rebounds.
But was the Andre Murrillo's double-double of 23 points and 21 rebounds in addition to six assists that led all players, and helped propel the Eagles to victory. He was joined by 7-footer Mike Kurtz who added a double-double of his own, 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The men's basketball team falls to 2-5 on the season (0-1 Cal Pac). They will travel to Vanguard University this weekend for the Vanguard Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament. The Golden Eagles will face No. 6 Concordia University (NAIA Division I) on Friday, followed by a game versus the tournament host, Vanguard University on Saturday night.
