Merced, Calif. - The men's basketball team jumped back into the win column with a win, on the road, at the University of California – Merced. The Golden Eagles used a late surge in the second half, to escape with the 77-67 conference victory. The win is the second conference win for the Golden Eagles on the season.
In a game that consisted of seven ties and nine lead changes, the Golden Eagles led by as many as 10 points in the first half. But by the halftime break, the Bobcats had trimmed La Sierra's lead to just 42-39.
Midway through the second half, the Bobcats had extended their lead to seven points, their largest lead of the evening. But the Golden Eagles stormed back with a scoring run in the final half of the second half, to secure the victory.
The Golden Eagles had three players who scored in double figures, led by Ian Mozelski who finished with 20 points. Daveon Woods added 16 points and three rebounds, while Wolfgang Wood contributed 14 points and three rebounds.
Guard CJ Goldsmith led all players with six assists, in addition to five points and four rebounds. Taylor Scharffenberg tallied 10 rebounds to tie a game-high, and scored seven points in the win.
The men's basketball team pushed their season record to 4-20 (2-6 in Cal Pac play). The team will return home for two straight home games, starting on Thursday evening, when they host Cal State San Marcos at 7:30pm, followed by a Cal Pac conference match-up with No. 18 Cal State Maritime on Saturday night, at 8:30pm.
