Returning home for their Cal Pac home opener, the Golden Eagles defeated William Jessup University, 7-4, in the first of a three game series.
Catcher Monique Villasenor paced La Sierra going 4-for-4 on the afternoon, while driving in one run.
William Jessup jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the 1st inning, but the Golden Eagles chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in each of the first three innings, to take a 3-2 lead. It would also prove to be a lead they would never relinquish.
La Sierra also tacked on two runs in the 4th inning and another two runs in the 5th capping off their scoring. The Golden Eagles were able to answer every attempt by the Warriors to get back in the game.
Both teams struggled offensively at times, with the Golden Eagles committing two errors to the Warriors three errors.
But La Sierra's offense stayed hot as they tallied a total of 13 hits in the game.
Katie Witherby led the team with two RBI's, going 2-for-3 on the afternoon. Also joining the hit parade was Brianna Gutierrez who drove in a run with a 2-for-4 performance, and Erika Basurto who also notched an RBI, going 2-for-2 at the plate.
Aleena Bahling picked up the win for the Golden Eagles, pitching 6 1/3 innings, while giving up four runs on eight hits. Emily Campos entered the game in the 7th inning to close things out for La Sierra.
Kindra Ryals was charged with the loss for William Jessup. Ryals five runs on 10 hits, through four innings of work.
With the win, the Golden Eagles softball team improves to 8-22 on the season (3-4 Cal Pac).
