Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles baseball team dropped a single game, 14-1, played just down the road at Cal Baptist University. La Sierra was never able to recover after giving up six runs in the third inning.
The Lancers scored six runs on just three hits, while also capitalizing on an error in the third inning. They also took advantage of two walks and a hit-by-pitch in the inning as well.
Cal Baptist added runs in each of the next five innings to reach their total of 14 runs. The Lancers finished with 11 hits in the game, with six of their 11 hits being extra base hits.
The Golden Eagles scored one run on four hits in the game. After starting off the top of the sixth inning with a lead-off double, Brian Burgin followed by stealing third base and subsequently later scored on a passed ball, erasing the shutout.
Adam Hofacket (5-2) pitched six innings, striking out eight, against only one base-on-balls while collecting his fifth win of the season. Rico Alanis was charged with the loss.
With the loss, the baseball team now falls to 2-29 on the season. They will play two games over the weekend at Cal State San Marcos, starting with a doubleheader on Friday (11am) and followed by another doubleheader on Sunday (12pm).
