Riverside, Calif. - The Golden Eagles softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 10-2 and 2-0, on the road at Cal Baptist University.
In the first game of the doubleheader, a six run inning in the bottom of the fifth ended what was a relatively competitive game to that point.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the first inning. The score remained that way until Cal Baptist pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 4-0.
The Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning, on a homerun by Cynthia Martinez, to cut the lead in half, 4-2. But the Lancers answered with six run in the bottom half of the inning, pushing the lead to 10-2 and ending the game after five innings of play.
Belinda Renne picked up the win for Cal Baptist, while Aleena Bahling was charged with the loss.
In Game 2, a run in the first inning and another run in the third inning proved to be the difference.
The Golden Eagles out-hit the Lancers in the second game, led by Monique Villasenor who went 3-for-3 in the game and Katie Witherby who finished 2-for-4.
Both pitchers pitched complete games, with Kayla Hatch (22-6) picking up the win and Emily Campos being charged with the loss.
The softball team is now 10-26 on the season. They will close out the regular season in two weeks when they host Menlo College in their final Cal Pac series of the year. They will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 25, followed by a single game on Sunday, April 27.
