Led by Freshman Joirdan Jones, the Women's Basketball team defeated Arizona Christian University 79-59 in Phoenix Saturday night. After suffering a 88-77 home defeat at the hands of ACU on January 29, at La Sierra, the Golden Eagles came out swinging and would not be denied. La Sierra opened up a 33-29 halftime lead with a 15' baseline jumper from Junior Laura Ramos and a stepped up defensive effort by the entire team. 

The Golden Eagles came out of the halftime break and exploded for 46 points to pull away and secure the victory. Freshman Joirdan Jones was on fire all night. She was 13-21 from the floor and a red-hot 5-7 from downtown. She also added 7 boards to her dominate night.  Freshman Natalia Hawthorne added 22 points and 7 assists. Junior point guard Melissa Bustamonte and Freshman Kyrese Montgomery combined for 14 rebounds as the guided the balanced Golden Eagle attack. Junior Laura Ramos led the team with 12 rebounds. "it was an incredible night all around"said Coach Thorson. "we dominated from the start and never looked back". 

The Lady Golden Eagles won 7 of the last 8 games of the season.  "I'm very proud of our girls, not just tonight, but for the way they played the entire season" said Coach Thorson. "we will be back next season bigger, stronger, faster and better" said the Coach. "It has been an incredible year, and we are already looking forward to improving next season" said Thorson. 

With the win, the La Sierra Women's Basketball team set the all-time school record of 12 wins in a season and finished a very respectable 12-17 in Coach Thorson's first season as the Head Coach. They also won 7 of the last 8 games of the season.  "I'm very proud of our girls, not just tonight, but for the way they played the entire season" said Coach Thorson. "we will be back next season bigger,stronger, faster and better" said the Coach. "It has been an incredible year, and we are already looking forward to improving next season" said Thorson. 

The Eagles of Arizona Christian College (formally Southwestern College) were led by Steffani Liscum with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
