Riverside, Calif. - The women's basketball team split their two conference games this week. Despite slow starts in both contests, the Golden Eagles were able to salvage one of the two conference games. The team fell to the University of California – Merced by a final of 73-59, while defeating California Maritime Academy, 68-62. With the win, La Sierra improves to 4-8 in conference play (8-17 overall).
The Golden Eagles were never able to overcome a 22-8 first quarter deficit to the Bobcats. Outscoring the Bobcats 16-9 in the final quarter wasn't enough to come back from a 25-point deficit towards the end of the third quarter.
Two days later, the team hosted Cal Maritime Academy. Another slow start forced the Golden Eagles to play from behind. The Keelhaulers jumped out to an early 18-7 lead after one quarter of play, but the Golden Eagles had cut the lead to 30-25 by the end of the first half. After the two teams played a relatively even third quarter, the Golden Eagles used a late fourth quarter run to complete the comeback victory.
The team will close out their season on the road this coming weekend. The Golden Eagles will visit Benedictine University, on Thursday evening, followed by a final contest at Embry-Riddle University, on Saturday night.
